Salem's experience in the Middle East consists of leveraged finance transactions, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, bank financings, refinancings, initial public offerings and large-scale infrastructure and real estate development projects both for private bodies and government entities. Salem's client base includes some of the Middle East's largest companies across the energy, banking, real estate and private sectors.
He has extensive experience across the Middle East and has advised on matters concerning various jurisdictions. He has particular experience in Iraq, having lived/worked in the jurisdiction for more than fifteen years. He is an Iraqi national who is fluent in Arabic and has a history of acting for Iraqi government ministries as well as advising on a large number of corporate transactions in the country.
Salem is a member of the New York bar and is admitted to provide legal services in the UAE. Prior to joining Stephenson Harwood, Salem headed the Iraq practise at DLA Piper and before that practised at Clifford Chance (London) and Morgan Lewis (New York).
